Tiwi Islands Book Launch Part 1: Getting there

While in Darwin, the ILF program team prepare for their visit to the Tiwi Islands.

In June 2021, a team from the Indigenous Literacy Foundation headed to Milikapiti Community on the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory to launch two books in Tiwi language.

More than often, accessing remote communities takes time to prepare and travelling distances are considerable. In this story, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation's program team take a small plane from Darwin to Melville Island for a special book launch.

Indigenous Literacy Day is proudly presented by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity with a vision of equity of opportunity for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children living in remote Australia.
